Reflections of Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Day number one has come to a close for us. It was quite an enjoyable one at that. The day started out with breakfast with my mother-in-law. It is her 86th birthday today. She has a mentally handicapped son at home. My husband helps take care of his mom and brother.
After breakfast we came home to prepare some food to take to my parent’s home. Mom has cooked Thanksgiving dinner every year. The grandkids are all grown up now. It is rare that we have many of them together at any one point. My sister’s three children were all with us this year. It is so nice to see them in their young adult stage. They’ve really matured the past year.
We left my parent’s home in the early evening. I met a client at the office and wrote an offer on a home. Hopefully we’ll be able to reach an agreement and my client will be in a new home for the new year.
Tonight I am cooking a turkey and a roast for tomorrow’s Thanksgiving dinner number two. My mother-in-law, brother-in-law, my son and his fiancée will be over for dinner. This is my second attempt at cooking a turkey. The first one was so long ago, not even I remember it. The turkey is in the oven stuffed with rosemary, tarragon, sage, thyme and butter. The smell emanating from the oven is heavenly.
I am reflective as I read blog posts and Facebook comments of various people’s Thanksgiving Day. I won’t go into detail because there were too many I could comment on. Some are funny, some are complaining and some are sad, but most all express gratitude in one way or another. Look for that silver lining. Life is what you make of it.
